Services

Throughout the week we hold 2 or 3 services organised by our Rector, Rev. Sarah Shaw. Depending on the time of year we may have extra services.

Each service is supported by a dedicated team who carry out the duties of Server, Crucifer and Thurifer, all are members of the Scottish Guild of Servers.

Our services are also supported by members of the laity by way of Welcomers, Intercessors, Readers, Sacristans, and Tea/Coffee Makers.

Our Sung Eucharist is enriched by enthusiastic members of the Choir. Currently, we are fortunate to have the services of three organists who share keyboard duties.

All are welcome!

Children & Families

Here at Christ Church we welcome children to join us throughout our services..

If you have a buggy or need some space for your children to play there is space in our Lady Chapel along with a selection of toys and crafts for them to use.

We thoroughly enjoy hearing children enjoying themselves throughout the service so please do not worry if they run around or make noise.

If your child needs the toilet during the service please feel free to use the toilet that is situated at the back of church next to the entrance or the facilities in Christ Church Hall.

We also want you to know that we are Breastfeeding Friendly.

Prayer

If there is someone you would like us to pray for please contact our prayer team on

falkirkprayerministry@gmail.com

Please check that the person is happy for their name to be passed on, a first name is enough.

Pastoral Care

Members of the Pastoral Team support the ordained ministers by way of regular visits to the elderly, the housebound, those in care homes or hospital to administer communion from the reserved sacrament.

If you are taken ill or are admitted to hospital please ask your family or carers to inform us. Please contact Rev. Sarah Shaw on revsarahshaw@gmail.com or 07943405156.

Baptism

This is the sign instituted by Jesus to unite us with his own baptism and is a sign that we are now part of God’s Church. This can happen at any age and once someone has been baptised we consider them to be a full member of the Church.

Baptism is a gift from God and we welcome anyone for Baptism. You do not have to be a member of the Church to be baptised or have your child baptised [christened]. We are happy to meet with you to discuss more fully what is involved in the service and what it means.

Baptisms usually take place as an integral part of our 1000 hour Sunday Eucharist.

You do not need to be a regular member of our congregation to be baptised.

Please contact Rev. Sarah Shaw to discuss.

First Communion

It is now the custom within the Scottish Episcopal Church [SEC] for some children to be admitted to communion at the age of seven or earlier. However, this is entirely up to the parents who should approach the Rector if they wish their child to be prepared for first communion. A period of teaching takes place prior to the event and we always ensure that it is a special occasion.

Confirmation

Adults and teenagers who wish to make a public declaration of their baptismal promises may do so at Affirmation of Baptism.

Instruction classes are offered to both adults and teenagers. These last from four to six weeks.

Affirmation of Baptism is celebrated by the Bishop as an integral part of the Eucharist.

Weddings

Christ Church seats about one hundred and twenty people but, on occasion, we can accommodate more. If you would like to celebrate your marriage with us the first point of call is the Rector who will give guidance and agree the date. Please ensure that you have done this prior to any firm booking with a reception venue.

The local Registrar Office [Newmarket Street, Falkirk. FK1 1JK] has information, on the legal issues involved, within their literature. It is advised that couples familiarise themselves with this early on.

You do not have to be a member of Christ Church to be married here although we would welcome you at any time. The Rector will give advice about the order of service, music, flowers and other practical matters.

Funerals

These are officiated by the Rector in the church, a Funeral Director’s parlour or at the Crematorium. Arrangements can be made directly with the Rector or through a Funeral Director. The Rector is also pleased to discuss planning arrangements with you as required.

Remembrance Garden

To the rear of Christ Church we have our Remembrance Garden.

All are welcome to visit the garden we ask that you are mindful when visiting and respectful of other who may be present paying their respects.

Confession/Reconciliation

At times it is helpful for us to talk over our problems with another person. Many Episcopalians and Anglicans regularly see their confessor or meet with a Spiritual Director to discuss their spiritual state and growth. Others attend when they feel there is a need or when something in particular is troubling their conscience. If you are unfamiliar with this sacrament speak with our Rector, Rev Sarah Shaw.
